Egypt's Colossi of Memnon to be reunited with their twins
Posted: April 17th, 2008Next year the site of the Colossi of Memnon will be worked over completely: Two giant statues of the pharaoh Amenhotep III will be erected just a hundred metres (328 feet) behind the two existing colossi that mark the entrance to the mortuary temple. Another two statues, still half-buried, will also be returned to their former upright position in the years to come.
Statue of Queen Tiy found near Colossi of Memnon
Posted: March 23rd, 2008Egyptian and European archeologists on Saturday announced they had discovered a giant statue of an ancient pharaonic queen on the spectacular south Egypt site of the Colossi of Memnon. The statue represents Queen Tiy, the wife of 18th dynasty Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and stands 3.62 metres high (almost 12 feet). It was discovered around the site of the massive Colossi of Memnon twin statues that command the road to Luxor's famed Valley of the Kings.
