Posted: January 29th, 2009The exhibit dedicated to the re-classification and training programme for Egypt's museum system is financed by the Foreign Ministry and had been already inaugurated on October 26 in the Egyptian museum 'Midan Tahrir' when president of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano visited Cairo. As of 1 February it will move to the Italian Institute of Culture.

Museum at Rosetta will be completed by end of year
Posted: September 15th, 2008The Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) has finalized setting up the first national museum for the antiquities of Rosetta city in Beheira Governorate, as well as the completion of renovation of the antiquities of the historical city. Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni said that during the coming week, Rosetta museum will be inaugurated at a total cost of L.E. 4 million. A garden and the halls of the museum have been set up within the framework of renovating the monuments of the city that aim at preserving the historic character.
UNESCO backs plan to build underwater museum in Alexandria

Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced Thursday that it would help Egypt build an underwater museum in the Bay of Alexandria on the Mediterranean. The idea for a museum, located by Cleopatra's Palace and the mythical Alexandria Lighthouse also known as Pharos, comes amid growing recognition of the importance of underwater cultural heritage. The museum, the first of its kind, will be partly above water and partly submerged where visitors will be able to see archaeological artifacts on the seabed, according to a press release by UNESCO.

Posted: February 25th, 2008Swaffham Museum has launched an 11th hour survival appeal as a funding crisis means it might lose its professional staff or even close down. The venue which houses a collection dedicated to the famous Egyptologist Howard Carter is currently undergoing a major facelift following an EU grant of £384,000. But due to unexpected repair works most of the cash was used to underwrite additional costs, leaving little funds to pay full-time wages for the museum's curator and an education officer.

The Carlos Museum’s new exhibit "Lost Kingdoms of the Nile" showcases artifacts from the ancient North African country. Though some objects are peculiar to the Nubians, there are many that show an artistic propensity for Egyptian art. The exhibit also features photos and records of the excavations that brought these objects to light and the turn of the 20th century.
